what is granite?
Granite is a tough, durable rock composed
of feldspar and quartz.
The white mineral grains found in granite are feldspar. The light gray, glass-like grains are quartz, and the black looking sections are made up of black mica.

Granite began as a large mass of molten rock, which originated when the earth’s crust melted. The magma rose upward and cooled near the surface.
The granite gets pushed upward, and the land above it gets removed by erosion. This brings granite near the surface to be quarried.

Granite comes in many colors and different grain patterns. The finishes most commonly used on cemetery monuments are polished or rock edged.

what is marble?

Marble is limestone that has been compressed and heated deep within the earth. Marble was never molten rock, but was likely heated and squeezed. Marble is also made up of only one mineral, Calcite, which is much softer than granite.
